Events for the year 2000-2001 Pongal Vizha - 2001Pongal, the prime festival of the Tamilians, was celebrated in a grand manner by Bharathi Kalai Mandram on Friday, 12 January 2001 at the Indian Arts Circle. It was a full day event and all members and their families were dressed in their best clothes.The program started off with the singing of the Prayer song by all the Committee members. It was a unique sight to see the full committee on the stage. The celebrations started with the lighting of the lamp and the welcome address by the President. The first item was a dance number " Thai Piranthal Vazhi Porakum". This number portrayed the successful harvest, good yield and the happiness of the peasants. This was followed by a 'song and dance' by two tiny tots imitating Pattu Mammi and Kittu Mamma. "Maha Ganapathi" dance was the next item. The children danced for this famous song from the film " Amarkalam". Then, it was time for a ride to the "World of the Lords - Devalokam." Here was a unique opportunity to witness the fights and competitions amongst the Gods. The next dance was a song from the ever popular movie "Jeans" which was followed by a song about the moon. The "Voice of the Wise" was next. Three children, one each from the Muslim, Christian and Hindu communities, educated the audience with quotes from the Holy Scriptures. The final item was a poetic portrayal of an imaginary scenario. "What would happen if God appeared on earth? " was the scenario. After a sumptuous lunch, the audiences settled down to enjoy the stage play by S. Ve. Shekher. Shekher, who came from Chennai with two of his associates, with the help and cooperation of the local artistes carried off the day by treating the audience to uninterrupted bouts of laughter. Shekher with the wonderful use of backdrops, jokes and lively dialogues made all forget their troubles and worries for about two hours. BKM released a souvenir which apart from many useful information, consisted of poems, articles and short stories by the members. The editorial team comprising of Mr. Muralirajan, Mr. N.B. Sundarrajan and Mrs. Gayathri Muralirajan deserve a lot of praise for their pain staking efforts. The souvenir has been commended by many for its layout, design and information. The designer of the cover page, Mr. P. Gopalakrishnan was honored on the stage. Thilaana, Thilaana Dance Competition & DramaBharathi Kalai Mandram successfully conducted a group dance competition entitled "Thilaana Thilaana" for the members' children at the Indian Arts Circle on Friday, 22 December 2000.more... The ladies of BKM staged a thriller entitled, " Mudivu Enna?" after the dance competition. The plot revolved around the murder of the daughter-in-law (Mala Sunder) of the house and everyone in the family becoming a suspect. The tough, no-nonsense Inspector (Mala Murali) interrogates everyone and no one is spared. more... Light Music by Anoorada SriramFamous Cine Play Back Singer, Anoorada Sriram, performed live on Thursday, 23 November 2000 at the Indian Arts Circle, Funaitees, Kuwait. Inaugural ProgramBKM conducted its first program for the year 2000-2001 on 24th May 2000 at the Indian Embassy Auditorium to a fully packed audience.
