Events for the year 2000-2001
"If we may believe our logicians, man is distinguished from all other creatures by the faculty of laughter"
All those present to watch the Patti Mandram on 15 September 2000 at the Indian Arts Circle by Dindigul Leoni and troupe thoroughly enjoyed themselves and laughed their hearts out.
- Joseph Addison 1672 - 1719.
BKM successfully conducted two shows on the same day featuring different topics. Both the topics were hilarious in nature - the morning show to determine whether it is the husband or the wife who leads the family and the evening show to determine which is essential for day-to-day living, television or cinema.
As is his style, Leoni started the debate by prefacing the topic and introducing the speakers (both of who had come with him from India for the shows). The first speaker was Aranga Nedumaran, a teacher like Leoni, who with his booming voice and mannerisms mesmerized the audience. The second speaker was Kaviyan, a young budding personality and a former student of Leoni. Both the shows were filled with anecdotes, jokes and quotations from tamil songs. At the end of two rounds of debates, Leoni, "the judge" gave his verdict.
Bharathi Kalai Mandram also honored the toppers amongst its members' children in the X and XII standard. Gold Medals were presented to Mr. Sudan Rajan (X Standard) and Ms. Smitha Bala (XII Standard).
