Musical night by Dr. P Susheela

This musical program by the renowned playback singer Dr. P Susheela was held on the 4th of October at 6.45 p.m in the I.A.C auditorium Funaitees. This program has been organized to honor the living legend Dr. P. Susheela, who has entertained us with her melodious voice for the past 50 years with over 40,000 Songs.

Life Sketch of Dr. P. Susheela - Play Back Artist

Born in Vizianagram, Vizianagram District, Andhra Pradesh. She had her early education in Viziangram. She comes from a large family. Her mother's name is Sheshavataram. Her father Sri P. Mukunda Rao was a leading Criminal Lawyer in Vizianagram. She has studied classical music in Maharaja's Music College, Vizianagram. Under the principalship of Late Sri Dwaram Venkateswami Naidu, the famous Violinist. She got first class diplamo in Vocal. She came to Madras for higher studies in the Music Academy. She underwent the course there for three months under the principle-ship of Sri Musri Subramanya Iyer.

She has slowly developed interest in the film music. Before singing from the films she used to give classical music performances in public platforms and also through the All India Radio, Madras, Vijayawada, Bangalore, Hyderabad Station, etc., Her first picture was "Kannatalli" in Telugu and "Petrathai" in Tamil under the Music direction of Sri Pendyala Nageswara Rao. She is singing in almost all south Indian languages namely Tamil, Telugu, Kannadam, Malayalam and also in Singalam. She had won the All India National award for the first time since its inception for ladies in 1969. She had also owned the Tamil Nadu state award for three years. She was again given the National Award in 1971, 1977 & 1983 and 1984, which is a record itself. She own the Kerala State government award for the Best Play-back Artist in the year 1971. She also won the Best play-back award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh in years 1977, 1978, 1982, 1984 and 1989. Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1978-1979 awarded her Kalaimamani' title. She was awarded nearly 20 times as Best Playback Artist by Madras film Fans Association. It is also important that she had completed 45 years in this field.

Adhra University has also awarded her with Doctorate. She had been given numerous awards by various associations and magazines for her performance in all the languages on innumerable occasions. She minds her own profession with pure devotion. She is married to Dr. B R R Mohan Rao, and is having a son by name Jayakrishna, doughter-in-law Sandhya and a grandchild Jayashree and Subhashree.
